![]() ![]() Have your family wait for the baggage, and probably by the time they have collected it you will be ready to pick them up.įor discounts, you should check and see who the agencies partner with. It rarely takes me more than 30-45 minutes after deplaning to get to the car (this includes time spent walking to Baggage Claim and waiting on the shuttle). I catch the Hertz shuttle, tell them "Gold lot", and when they drop me off I walk straight to the car and drive away. They have my info on file (including E-mail and cell phone) and send me a text message, literally within minutes of landing, that tells me what kind of car I have and what stall number it is in on their lot. I am a huge fan of Hertz Gold, and that is what I normally use at LAX. ![]() When you get to LAX, take the shuttle to the rental lot, and if you are a club member you walk straight to the vehicle and drive away - no waiting in lines, no hassle, no wasted time on your vacation. ![]() You may not need to rent a car (but you can if you want - might give you a chance to test how the system works). Go to a local rental office in your home town sometime before your trip and have them do this. Note that for some clubs, you may need to rent somewhere else first so they can verify your info. I cannot stress this enough - even if it is just for this one rental, the time and aggravation you save at the counter will more than make up for the effort you use joining the club. The clubs are free, and go by various names - Budget FastBreak, Hertz Gold, National Emerald Aisle, Thrifty Blue Chip. Whatever agency you pick, JOIN THE FREQUENT RENTER CLUB and enter all your info into their system. I would stick with the major firms - Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Thrifty.įor the least hassle, you should book the car through the agency's website, NOT through Priceline, etc, It may cost you a little more on the rental, but will save you a lot of time at the pickup point. So I called a Mitsubishi dealer and they said it would take a couple of days to get the mirror, which was my last day there, but fortunately they were able to order the mirror ($90) and the service advisor was able to install it literally while I was still in the parts department paying for it.All car rental facilities at LAX are off-site, and you will need to take a shuttle from the terminal to get to one. I started out going to AutoZone, but the mirror they sold me didn't quite fit. ![]() Rather than return it and have Fox tell me "It was $150 for the mirror, $200 for labor to install it, and $400 for loss of use" I replaced the mirror myself. Naturally I always lock the car, and there was no sign of forced entry. About 3 days before I was to leave, I got in the car and - the rear-view mirror was gone! In addition, the glovebox was open and there was no owner's manual. I had a truly bizarre experience last week, although in no way does it reflect on Fox. If I want to, I have Amex first-dollar insurance available for $20 per rental. Fox did recently try to upsell me by saying that my own insurance would not cover loss of use. I will use them again, price was good. With every rental company, my first words as I'm handing over my license and credit card are "No Gas, No Insurance." That usually stops the upsell conversation. There was a lot of effort to upsell but the agent was very friendly and efficient. Located in rental car center like all the other companies, Very fast service. I used Fox last week for a weekly rental in San Diego, service and vehicle were excellent, no problems. I did have a kerfuffle with them where they charged me for gas, when I had told them I'd just return the car full (which I did) but they refunded the gas charge pretty promptly when I wrote to them about it. That would have been an excellent price two years ago given current car rental rates it's freaking awesome. Last month I rented from them for 10 days for $253 all-in. Of course, sometimes close to the trip they're sold out! I've also found that sometimes, close to the trip, the rates go down. And of course that spares you having to worry about the grace period, if that's going to be an issue. My main reason for posting is to advise that their weekly rates are often cheaper than six or even five days. Of course if you are going to be exceptionally tight on time on your return you wouldn't want to use them. The second shuttle that they operate is pretty efficient. Other than that you have to take two shuttles, which is true of all the companies not located in the car rental facility, I have nothing bad to say about them. I've been renting regularly from Fox the past few months (I go to LAS once a month) because they're cheapest. ![]()
